Welcome to the inaugural inspirED newsletter!

InspirED is a collaborative initiative between Education.au and the Australian, State and Territory school education jurisdictions to deliver quarterly email newsletters, one in each school term, to teachers, school leaders and education administrators around the use of ICT in teaching and learning.

The newsletters will provide information about recent developments in ICT in education, and innovation in Australia's education jurisdictions.

Use the links above to manage your subscription to the newsletter and learn more about inspirED. Click here to navigate to the inspirED website.

The inspirED project is currently in the pilot phase. We value feedback to help us ensure inspirED is providing valuable information for Australian educators. We'd especially like to hear about articles you have written or short videos you have recorded that we can consider for publication.

Regards
The inspirED team.

Technology in teacher professional development

As the digital education revolution gathers momentum, educators are observing technology's increasing profile within education settings and in the media. The focus of the conversations is around how techology can transform teaching and learning and improve education outcomes for Australia's school children, but it is worth considering for a moment the impact technology can have on other aspects of teachers' professional lives.

Interactive whiteboards

Many readers may be familiar with the massive potential that interactive whiteboards (IWBs) offer to bring computing and the internet into classrooms and to engage whole classes simultaneously. For those who are not so familiar, this article offers a primer to IWBs.

Cyber safety

The digital education revolution promises fantastic opportunities for students to access information, learn, and create on the Internet. There are also wonderful opportunities for educators to transform their teaching by harnessing the technology's potential. As the revolution rolls out, however, it demands teachers, school leaders and administrators tackle the Internet’s dark side, which is not understood by many, even if they understand the learning opportunities that the internet offers.

Integrating e-learning into the curriculum

This article looks at several examples of how different types of technology can be used to support and enhance learning.

e-Lifelong learning

The current focus of the digital education revolution is to put computers on upper secondary students' desks. Ultimately however, the e-learning agenda is far broader than this, and in this article we take a look at e-learning in post-compulsory education.
